All Australian governments are now committed to a net-zero economy for Australia by 2050, the first step of which is a net-zero energy system. We are collaborating with industry and other stakeholders to engineer electricity grids that can handle 100 per cent instantaneous renewable generation by 2025. AEMO also plays a significant role in the east coast gas market, which has recently expanded to assessing if there is enough natural gas for customers, including electricity generators. The transition to a renewable energy system is occurring at a world-leading pace. It is an exciting, momentous time to be part of this mission. About the role AEMO’s System Planning division is focused on the efficient planning of the power system over the medium to long term to ensure system security and reliability requirements are met in the National Electricity Market. They are also responsible for AEMO’s Integrated System Plan, the 20-year blueprint guiding the future development of the east coast’s power system, as well as system security assessments such as the System Strength Reports, Inertia Reports. System Planning is also responsible for a range of other engineering assessments and market modelling responsibilities. The primary focus of the Senior Engineer position is to provide engineering expertise to assess power system capability and develop solutions to ensure the efficient planning for the security and reliability of the electricity transmission networks in the National Electricity Market.
