
Senior Estimator
Adecco is currently hiring a full-time experienced and detail oriented Senior Estimator to join our client's dynamic team in Edmonton, AB. In this role you will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for large-scale projects. This role involves collaborating with project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop cost-effective proposals, managing risk analysis, and ensuring that estimates align with project specifications and timelines. You will provide leadership to the estimating team and oversee the development of estimates throughout the project lifecycle. Pay Rate: $150k/year (based on experience) Location: Edmonton, AB Job type: Permanent | Full-time Responsibilities: Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and material supply quotes. Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. Keep up-to-date with unit prices, productivity standards, and maintain an accurate database. Prepare detailed and accurate estimates, including quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers. Participate in client meetings and project interviews when necessary. Collaborate with engineers, architects, and owners to discuss changes or adjustments to cost estimates, and assist in preparing studies, material methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as needed. Prepare proposals and estimates for managerial approval before presenting them to potential clients, ensuring submission by the bid deadline. Develop risk mitigation plans and manage risks impacting estimates. Attend project team meetings to ensure alignment and understanding of project scope. Maintain and execute a Career Progression plan. Participate in required training courses to stay up-to-date in the field. Perform basic internet and intranet functions. Assist in training and mentoring junior estimating staff. Ensure estimating software is maintained and updated as required. Provide mentorship to junior staff to support their professional development. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: A Post-Secondary Certificate/Degree in Engineering, or equivalent qualifications as a Professional Engineer, or a Technical School graduate in a Construction-related discipline. Operations experience as a Project Coordinator or Project Manager is considered an asset. Over 10 years of extensive experience as an estimator in the general construction industry. Expertise in estimating all types of projects/contracts, with a strong ability to coordinate and supervise team efforts. Experience in coaching teams and facilitating collaborative planning processes. Skilled at managing and prioritizing multiple workflows and tasks simultaneously. Capable of meeting deadlines for completing assigned tasks. Comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment, with leadership abilities. Adaptable to changing job requirements and guidance from multiple sources. Proficient in using software packages, including Word, Excel, OST, Microsoft Scheduler, Bluebeam, etc. Expertise in Estimating software (InEight) is a plus. Knowledgeable in scheduling logistics and skilled in building accurate project schedules. Experienced in performing precise quantity takeoffs, both manually and electronically. Professional communicator, both verbally and in writing. Capable of identifying building materials and proposing cost-effective alternatives. Skilled in developing Sub-Contractor work scopes for tendering purposes. Knowledgeable in bonding and insurance requirements. Experience participating in tender closings. Understands and can incorporate Client requirements as necessary. Capable of chairing and managing meetings effectively. Able to visualize end products even without detailed drawings. Skilled in creating schematic project designs based on client requirements. Proficient in deriving alternate designs for cost or time savings. Able to analyze and assess project-related risks. Familiar with lean construction principles and their application. Expertise in estimating all types of projects/contracts, with a strong ability to coordinate and supervise team efforts.
