Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer
Location: Richland, WA
Columbia Energy & Environmental Services, a well-established small business headquartered in Richland, WA, provides full-service engineering, design, fabrication, instrumentation & controls, testing, and technology development.
We are currently seeking a Senior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our team. This role offers opportunities for career advancement, including serving as a design engineer on design/build/test projects, technical lead, and project engineer. Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities & Duties:
- Identify, evaluate, and test innovative design solutions for projects related to nuclear and hazardous waste remediation, chemical processing, and commercial development.
- Develop Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), control system designs, control panel designs, and conduct testing.
- Perform design and analysis in accordance with established codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL-508A).
- Ensure safe work practices in both office and shop environments, with a strong focus on safety in all aspects of assigned roles.
- Support multiple simultaneous projects and project teams.
- Collaborate with designers to produce detailed design drawings.
- Generate test plans and procedures, supporting system testing and validation.
- Maintain configuration control of baseline drawings and documents.
- Effectively communicate task status, progress, and technical issues, ensuring project deadlines are met.
- Conduct project reviews to verify compliance with fundamental design requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or higher from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in control system design.
- Proven experience in preparing and finalizing design deliverables, including resolving technical review comments.
- Construction oversight experience, including receipt inspection, testing, and coordination of final inspection/acceptance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for instrumentation, monitoring, and control systems.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize project needs and meet delivery schedules.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Department of Energy (DOE) experience
- Experience at a nuclear facility or Navy Nuclear Power Program
- Willingness to embrace new challenges, expand technical skills, and contribute effectively to project teams
Working Conditions:
- Office-based position with occasional visits to the Fabrication Shop for testing and collaboration with shop personnel.
