Seeking to hire a Direct Hire Senior Laboratory Technician in Dayton, OH.
Position Overview
We are seeking a meticulous and motivated Senior Laboratory Technician to join our client’s Research and Development department. This role is critical in developing new materials and processes for scale-up into our temperature solutions products. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment while maintaining high standards for quality and safety. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can balance technical expertise with team leadership while maintaining high standards for safety and quality in a dynamic R&D environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, calibration, supply management, and safety protocols while ensuring compliance with ISO, FDA, and other applicable standards
- Conduct advanced materials characterization and testing, including analysis of flexible film packaging, liquid phase change materials (PCMs), and shape stable PCMs
- Formulate new materials using various mixing, blending, and polymerization techniques while maintaining detailed documentation of processes and results
- Manage and execute multiple R&D projects, including method development, process improvement initiatives, and customer complaint investigations
- Supervise laboratory personnel, including screening candidates, developing training plans, managing schedules, and conducting performance evaluations
- Maintain comprehensive laboratory documentation including technical reports, TDS, SDS, CoA, CoC, and inventory records
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and quality improvement initiatives
- Identify and evaluate new raw materials from manufacturers and suppliers
- Provide technical expertise and training to less experienced associates
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or related laboratory-based science
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience in a laboratory/R&D setting
- Demonstrated expertise in organic and/or polymer chemistry with superior hands-on skills
- Proficiency with analytical instruments including GC, DSC, UV-Vis, FTIR, TGA, and various physical property analyzers
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices, material handling, and equipment maintenance
- Excellent mathematical skills including metric system proficiency and analytical calculations
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
Qualifications
- Experience with HMF, LFD, HPLC, GC/MS and/or DMA.
- Knowledge of PCM development and applications
- Experience with thermoplastic/thermoset gel development
- Understanding of modern plastic manufacturing processes
- Background in rubber/elastomer chemistry
- Statistical analysis expertise
- Experience with quality management systems and FDA/ISO requirements
