About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced bilingual and bicultural Senior Manufacturing Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience specializing in plastic injection molding and sheet metal fabrication for consumer products.
This role requires a deep understanding of materials, tooling, process flow, and quality control to support the manufacturing of innovative consumer products. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality, cost-effective production.
On a daily basis, this role will undertake significant coordination and communication with internal teams as well as overseas vendors, suppliers, and Taiwanese manufacturing partners. As such, the ideal candidate should be fluent in Taiwanese, and be capable of communicating complex engineering concepts in Taiwanese. The ideal candidate should also understand Taiwanese cultural nuances and be skilled in relationship management.
This is a full-time, onsite position in Torrance, CA. This role may require 15-20% of travel to Asia.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Development: Lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for plastic injection molding and sheet metal components, ensuring efficient, repeatable, and high-quality production.
- Tooling Design and Validation: Collaborate with design teams and tooling vendors to design, validate, and maintain molds, dies, and fixtures. Ensure tools meet production requirements and can produce parts to specification.
- Production Support: Provide hands-on support and technical expertise to the production team, addressing issues related to tooling, materials, and process parameters. Implement corrective actions to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements to reduce cycle time, scrap, and rework.
- Quality Control: Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to establish and maintain robust inspection and testing procedures. Ensure all manufactured products meet or exceed quality standards and customer specifications.
- Cost Reduction: Analyze and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or performance. Work with suppliers and internal teams to source materials and components that balance cost and quality.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D, Product Design, and Supply Chain teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs, providing input during the design phase to optimize for manufacturing efficiency and cost.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a strong emphasis on plastic injection molding and sheet metal fabrication for consumer products, and DFM.
- & Cultural: Fluency in Taiwanese and culture.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of plastic injection molding and sheet metal processes, including tool design, material selection, and process optimization.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, etc)
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues and implement effective solutions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively to cross-functional teams.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
