Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (£60K-£70K year)

INITION have developed a breakthrough battery production technology that dramatically decreases production costs and eliminates toxic solvents. We are located at the Culham Campus in Oxfordshire where we have installed our pilot line and are now building our team. At Inition we work closely together with minimal hierarchy towards the common goal of making battery production sustainable. You have a comprehensive range of technical knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering with a fundamental understanding of the principles of physics and chemistry and a resilient passion for bringing new technology to market.
You will focus on upgrading our current pilot line as well as taking the lead in designing and manufacturing the next of our machinery in collaboration with our chief engineer.
You are a hands-on, team-oriented engineer with an aptitude for learning new things and a burning desire to innovate.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Design mechanical upgrades
• Ownership of a subsystem of the technology
• Manage fabrication, installation and testing of all upgrades.
• Lead design and build of next machinery
• Evaluate the impact of design changes on quality and performance.
• Communicate ideas and results internally across the INITION team and with external stakeholders.
• Produce and manage technical documentation.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENT
• 5+ years of industry or lab experience (fewer for candidates with an advanced degree)
• Background in Mechanical Engineering required with a bias toward fabrication or product design
• Knowledge of GD&T
• CAD skills – SolidWorks, demonstrated through competence in 3-D design at component and assembly level, combined with the of 2-D manufacturing drawings SolidWorks
• Track record of successful R&D achievements demonstrated through innovative designs and / or a patent portfolio
• Well-organized and pragmatic approach to problem solving
• Attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technologies and independently drive improvement with a minimum level of supervision
• Exceptional communication skills and collaboration abilities
• Strong data-driven experimental design skills and an analytical ability to evaluate performance from first-principles
• Experience with control systems, automation and mechatronics a bonus
WHAT WE OFFER
£60K- £70K salary
