Senior Mechanical Engineer/Hybrid/Plymouth
Job Description
Endeavour Recruitment has an excellent long term contract opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading client.
Rate: up to £60 per hour (inside IR35)
Location: Plymouth
Hybrid (2-3 days a month on site)
Duration: 12 months initially. Highly likely to be extended.
British due to security clearance
The role:
- The role will be supporting the project team managing design houses and manufacturers through the delivery of work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.
- As part of this integrated team, you will be supporting the Principal Engineer to ensure engineering and technical aspects of the design are met throughout the design life cycle.
- Applying systems engineering approach to develop and validate design requirements
- Ensuring compliance with client specifications, technical regulations, and standards
- Collaboration across engineering functions and stakeholders to integrate designs within the overall facility layout and manage interfaces.
- Technical management of specialist sub-contract designers.
- Maintaining the engineering configuration of the design intent (change control)
Required skills and experience:
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and sound understanding of engineering practice required in the technical management of complex design development throughout the design life cycle.
- Mechanical engineering background preferably within Defence, Nuclear, Oil & Gas, or other highly regulated industry.
- Engineering principles for the design of mechanical process systems (eg water services, industrial gases).
- Engineering principles for the design of mechanical structures.
- Regulations, legislation, and standards that are applicable to mechanical system design and construction (including Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM).
- Experience of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Nuclear Safety Functions (desirable).
- Computer literate (preferably MS Office, Engineering Document Management Systems and BIM environments)
- Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities (desirable)
An appreciation of project management principles that are used to support design, construction/manufacture, acceptance, installation, operation, and repair would be advantageous, specifically relating to requirements management, design reviews and verification.
Qualifications:
- A degree, degree apprentice or demonstrable time served in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council (or actively working towards).
- Candidates should be capable of achieving SC status
