Worker Type: EmployeeGroup: Operations Engineering DepartmentJob Post End Date: 10/16/2024About this opportunity:The Cenovus Lloydminster Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil (LTCHO) Operations Team is currently looking for a Senior Operations Engineer to join our team!Working with the Senior Manager, Operations Engineering, this role develops and implements the base asset strategy for value maximization. It encompasses all Operations Engineering aspects, providing troubleshooting and technical support for surface infrastructure, well-level and field facilities to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations. The Operations Engineer is primarily accountable for key profit and loss (P&L) aspects for the CHO business.The Operations Engineer must understand Cenovus’s standards, procedures, and industry methodologies. They should exercise independent judgment to address regulatory and operational challenges, making decisions that align with business needs and budgets. A solid grasp of project economics is essential for optimizing operations to meet business goals. Collaboration and effective communication within a team are crucial, as is building strong relationships with internal and external partners to drive positive change and enhance asset value. Champion a focus on Process Safety in design and operation, including as a key partner in PSE responseResponsible for key P&L aspects in the geographic area, including operating costs and capital, with shared accountability for production. Collaborate with area Coordinators to enhance business and safety performance and achieve business plan goalsProvide technical infrastructure, design and process engineering support to the operation such as hydraulic pipeline modelling, compressor evaluations, control valve sizing and process modellingProvide engineering support for repairs, mechanical alterations, new equipment installations and natural gas and fluid management solutions to optimize infrastructureProvide key inputs for resource development plans and new drill campaigns, including facility optimization, cost assumptions and long-term infrastructure planningBe responsible for technical scoping, design, cost estimating and economic analysis, preparing project justification materials to align with corporate initiatives and budgetsImplement projects with prudent financial administration, including initiating AFE approval, monitoring project spend, accurate monthly accruals, and providing timely communication of deviations from budgetEngage other key collaborators (including Finance, Joint Venture, Production Revenue Accounting, Commercial, Liability Management and others) to provide insight into monthly business performance, identify and implement opportunitiesCollaborate with the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) to address recurring infrastructure issues and optimize value, while also working with the commercial team to manage midstream and competitor relationships through contract negotiation, system optimization, new business opportunities, facility consolidation and product recovery enhancementProvide direction and design interpretations for piping, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, exchangers, compressors and other mechanical equipmentInterpret and apply corporate specifications, governing Codes (e.g.: ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, API), Acts, Regulations and recommended practicesFoster collaborative environment with field personnel to develop and implement engineered solutions to maintenance and operational issues, including project scoping, feasibility, and preliminary cost estimating for economic justificationMaintain regulatory compliance on wellbores, pipelines and facilities such as inactive well, pipeline, and facility compliance, pipeline & facility licensing, GHG monitoring and compliance considerationsCollaborate with the IOC to manage risk and prioritize operations per the operate-by-execution philosophy while fostering knowledge sharing and eye for business across Conventional Heavy Oil OperationsWho you are:Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:Legally authorized to work in CanadaProfessional Engineer, accredited with APEGA and/or APEGS with the ability to authenticate mechanical engineering deliverablesA minimum of 8+ years of operations, facility, and production engineering experienceKnowledge and application of frequently used codes (ASME B31.3, CSA Z662 etc.)Working knowledge of upstream oil and gas industry and facility designStrong communication skills with an ability to influence multi-disciplinary teams including Field Operations, Maintenance, Regulatory, Finance, Commercial, TSL and external companiesMust be able to multi-task effectively and manage competing deadlinesPossess solving skills with an ability to make timely and consistent decisions on a broad variety of topicsSome travel to the field is required <10%.We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT Tuesday October 15, 2024.Internal candidates that are currently in a lower grade will be assessed based on their sustained job performance, how they demonstrate the expected organizational competency behaviors and values and in discussions with their current leader prior to determining next steps.Who we are:We’re an integrated energy company headquartered in Calgary with oil and natural gas production operations in Canada and the Asia Pacific region, and upgrading, refining and marketing operations in Canada and the United States.
