Senior Quantity Surveyor

Job Description

A Senior Quantity Surveyor is needed for a Design & Build main contractor who have recently acquired a new £250M student accommodation project in Manchester. With a strong foothold in the residential, commercial, education, and student accommodation markets, this contractor can offer exposure to a wide variety of developments. Working alongside the Project Director, the role will be managing the commercial & construction team to ensure a successful project is delivered, while maintaining relationships, maximising commercial returns, and managing risk.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities for construction projects.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and measurements from architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Analyse project specifications and identify potential cost-saving measures.
  • Advise on procurement strategies and assist in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Negotiate and prepare contracts, including variations and change orders.
  • Monitor project costs and expenditures, ensuring they align with the approved budget.
  • Provide advice on cost implications of design decisions and propose value engineering solutions.
  • Conduct cost analyses and cost forecasting to support project planning and decision-making.
  • Manage and lead a team of quantity surveyors, providing guidance and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure cost control and effective project delivery.
  • Prepare and submit progress claims and final accounts, including managing contractual disputes if they arise.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement risk management strategies related to costs.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in quantity surveying.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a Main Contractor environment.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical application of the JCT contract.
  • Track record of successfully managing projects from tender through to handover.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team.
  • Relevant industry qualifications.
