Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial management of a £32m DFE secondary school project in Cambridge. This complex new build and refurbishment project involves phased construction, pupil segregation, and re-measurable refurbishment, requiring a QS with strong contractual and cost management skills.
Currently in the PCSA phase for another two months, the project will start on-site in June 2025. The role requires immediate commercial input for market testing packages, finalising the main contract price, securing the contract, and managing the project on-site through completion.
This role is ideal for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience in running their own DFE projects. A Project QS with relevant DFE experience, ready to step up, will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Construction & Procurement:
- Lead market testing of trade packages.
- Support finalisation of the main contract price.
- Assist in securing the main contract before site commencement.
- Project Delivery:
- Oversee cost control, forecasting, and commercial reporting.
- Manage contract administration and change control.
- Ensure accurate valuation of works and submission of payment applications.
- Lead risk management and mitigation strategies.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure smooth delivery, considering pupil segregation and phased handovers.
- Stakeholder & Client Management:
- Liaise with DFE representatives, consultants, and supply chain partners.
- Provide commercial leadership and strategic advice.
- Ensure compliance with all contractual and financial obligations.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or a Project QS ready to step up.
- Prior experience managing DFE-funded school projects is essential.
- Strong understanding of JCT contracts and re-measurable refurbishment projects.
- Expertise in cost planning, procurement, and contract negotiation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to manage phased construction projects with live environments.
