Role Overview:

The Senior Scientist (Production Support) is responsible for conducting production investigations including small to large scale chemical reactions to support the manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) as a project technical lead to deliver projects on target for quantity, quality, timeline, and budget. This is a key scientific position in production with responsibility for oversight of manufacturing activities from a technical chemistry perspective.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads the delivery of experimental outputs from yourself, ensuring a high degree of scientific integrity and meeting deadlines with high quality. Work flexibly and reactively to adapt to the needs of project demands.
  • Exhibits safety awareness by conducting lab and other operations in a safe manner, holding themselves accountable for safe behavior in the work environment, and acting as a role model.
  • Applies knowledge and expertise from multi-disciplines to achieve project goals.
  • Leads projects and technical areas, acting as a mentor to other staff members. May supervise staff in lab-based activities and project work.
  • Expertly shares knowledge, skills, and experience internally and externally, leads focused projects as key contact.
  • Ensures key personnel are identified as successors in technical areas to ensure knowledge is retained in-house.
  • Keeps accurate, legible, and complete records of all experiments, observations, and equipment.
  • Writes high quality reports and delivers presentations to customers and management with some guidance in a timely manner that aligns with project milestones.
  • Contributes to sustaining good customer relations and identifies new commercial opportunities.
  • Actively contributes to the technical development of the department and company, working independently to drive progress in this area.
  • Consistently contributes to the production and review of high quality project outputs.
  • Ensures work complies with all state and federal regulations, including, GMP, DEA, FDA, etc.
  • Accomplishes other duties as fitting to the employee’s skills and abilities per reasonable request.

Qualifications:

Required

  • PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in a chemistry related discipline.
  • Previous process chemistry experience in an industrial setting.
  • Proven experience with effective project management.
  • Experience in mentoring and training staff in area of expertise.
  • Proficiency with relevant analytical techniques within an industry environment with a demonstrated ability to lead key technical areas effectively.
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office and relevant technical software.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical reports and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, quick decision-making skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and manually operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary for the job activity.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include near, distance, peripheral, perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly work with moving mechanical parts and may work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The work may be performed in humid areas with low or high temperatures.
  • This work may need to work with a respirator or operate with full-body Tyvek suits and supplied air or PAPR.
