Position Description Summary

APT Research is hiring a full-time Senior System Safety Engineer to provide support for a new missile system integration program. The successful candidate will apply system safety principles to analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards. The role includes active participation in the design of products/systems, associated support equipment and facilities.

Daily tasks include:

  • Perform MIL-STD-882 analyses of a high-profile government program
  • Review hardware designs to ensure they meet the Safety requirements for the program
  • Development of safety documentation to support customer and test/operational range requirements
  • Perform audits of operational areas and report the effectiveness of system safety program
  • Evaluating the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraint


Required Experience/Education:

  • A minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in engineering, science, applied mathematics, computer science, or closely related technical discipline
  • Experience working with Large Missile Programs, Test Range Requirements (91-710, RCC, etc.)
  • Experience implementing MIL-STD-882
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The candidate must have Electrical/Mechanic Engineering Design, System Integration, or Missile/Aircraft operational/maintenance experience
  • U.S. Citizenship


Security Clearance Requirement:

  • Must have an active Secret level clearance
  • Top Secret


Experience:

  • Ability to work in an Agile environment
  • Familiar with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Experience working in JIRA



Essential Job Functions:

Work Environment:

  • Office environment onsite, closed area
  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers


Travel Requirements:

  • Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%


Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk
  • Ability to lift >15 lbs.


Other Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
