SUMMARY:

The Senior Systems Engineer works with and takes direction from management team members to define business requirements, strategies, and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues. Proactively provide important and thorough communication to management to keep them informed of changing or critical circumstances. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with other network staff and appropriate departmental staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  • Research, recommend, order and install new systems level software. Designs and/or deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems as appropriate to the position.
  • Conduct research on software and systems products to determine applicability and fit for EPH environment.
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Integrate servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.

  • Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications
  • Understand all aspects of network intimately, including backup processes, switch configurations, wireless networks, server management, etc. Be able to troubleshoot network issues and get the right resources to resolve quickly.
  • Be highly attuned to systems security and status: Observe alerts, but also be proactive about checking dashboards for malware management, system management, and other. Identify problem issues as soon as possible by proactive use of tools and alerts, and resolve.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, and hardware and software components.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Coordinate and perform tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Provide and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
  • Receives problem requests from users and promptly diagnoses and troubleshoots “system level” problems in hardware, software, and networking; performs technical support, which may include field and remote site assignments to diagnose and resolve complex problem calls related to hardware and software.
  • Installs, configures and tests hardware and/or software; performs preventive maintenance and repairs hardware; identifies trends in the reported problem calls and suggests and implements improvements.
  • Identify and suggest process improvements in served departments when these are seen to create inefficient use of computer or staff resources. This may also involve suggestion of new, replaced, or modified software.
  • Consistently maintain an attitude that says that “the internal customers at EPH are my patients.” Welcome requests for assistance and provide that assistance and guidance with a positive attitude. Help negotiate solutions between supported departments when of opinion occur. Suggest solutions, engage those in need, offer assistance proactively to those who apparently have need.
  • Provide cross-coverage for other Information Systems team members during absences of those other team members. Learn sufficient information about other software systems supported by other IS team members to be able to provide this cross-coverage.
  • Be a good positive example for other IS employees and for the hospital in general. Be an ambassador for EPH; speak positively of EPH, EPH’s strategies and projects, and EPH’s staff whenever discussing those topics in any formal or informal gatherings of employees or others.
  • Be available to fill in for IS Director during absences. Attend strategic planning sessions when requested, advise director and other management on appropriate strategies.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
  • Manage electronic communications such that all alerts, notices, communications from others, and any other electronic communication is read, noted, and either acknowledged or replied to, within 24 hours. Stay attuned to electronic communication when on-duty, and as much as reasonable off-duty, to ensure response as quickly as needed to requests and changing conditions. Give particular note and priority to electronic or other communications from other IT staffers, board members, senior leadership team members, physicians, and department directors.
  • Be open and collaborative in all dealings with other IT team members; work actively to create and maintain strong relationships with all other IT team members.
  • Participate in committees as assigned.
  • Perform in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory agency standards.
  • Perform in accordance with EPH vision, mission and goals.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in computer science or software engineering and/or minimum four years’ experience as a Tech Support Analyst and status as certified systems engineer or proven equivalent knowledge. Other combination of experience & education may be substituted that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance as determined by the employer.
  • Minimum four years’ experience as a Technical Support Analyst or similar position, and additional two years as systems engineer. Experience in and knowledge of network and data security and privacy practices and laws. Prefer extensive experience with EPH software applications, especially systems-level experience with electronic-health records and Windows applications. Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems. Advanced diagnostic skills, general knowledge of technology trends, and basic network technologies and of multiple client platforms. Experience working with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to use analytical skills to diagnose and troubleshoot varied and complex components including hardware, software, networking, and applications. Ability to perform assigned tasks quickly and accurately and follow oral and written directions. Ability to use telephone, write effectively, and use a keyboard to communicate.
  • Must have exceedingly strong ability to collaborate and communicate.

PAY RANGE:

$36.94 - $50.24 per hour
