Service Technician – Fire Alarm Systems

PURPOSE
The Service Technician – Fire Alarm Systems – Technician will primarily be responsible for performing routine fire alarm inspections and providing fire alarm system service. Technician may also provide assistance with technical start-up, programming, and checkout for Fire Alarm Systems, Building Access Control Systems, Parking Revenue Controls for the primary areas of Commercial Offices, Data Centers, Government, Industrial, Healthcare, and Education. This is a field position with the primary responsibility to handle all aspects of fire alarm and security system service. Maintain and grow the “Customer for Life” concept for existing and new customers. Performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be constructed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Program Fire alarm systems, Access Control Panels, Workstation Software, Surveillance Video systems, Parking Revenue Control system software and associated security services via their custom software application packages.
- Work with IT staff to coordinate the integration into customer networks and be willing to learn advanced network configurations and setup that apply to each system.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by continual follow-up, communication skills and complete final checkout of service and construction jobs where assigned.
- Provide sales support as needed to assist the Project Manager to obtain recurring business.
- Serve as the technical expert for our solutions and be willing to continue to learn our systems and provide value to customers.
- Handle assigned service calls to keep our offerings up and running with quick response and thorough checkout.
- Prepare documentation for Fire alarm Inspections and be responsible for providing timely reports to customers.
- Provide documentation for operation and maintenance after a project is complete and communicate changes and modifications with Application Engineer.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- High School Diploma required
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with fire alarm systems required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid driver’s license
- Current Iowa Fire Alarm License for fire alarm inspections, fire alarm service and security service is required.
- Current NICET Level 1 Certification, minimum
- Current 30 HR OSHA certification or the ability to obtain within the 1st year of employment
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to perform all necessary duties unsupervised
- Knowledge of common Windows Office applications
- Knowledge of Ethernet and serial network communication formats and hardware configurations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
At any given time, may be exposed to:
- Typical construction site and/or industrial site risks and environment
- Be able to work in exterior elements that come with all seasons (with or without temperature changes).
- Ability to travel overnight on occasions to install or startup a system
- This position will be in rotation for an On-Call schedule, which is adjustable, but currently once every 10 weeks.
