The Anode Furnace and Casting Wheel area consists of 2x500 tonne rotary anode furnaces and a 2x18 mould double casting wheel system.Key ResponsibilitiesThis position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.Maintain safety and discipline in the SectionEnsure that shift throughput targets for the anode furnace and casting area are achieved.Supervise the control room operators and other operators in the Section.Monitor plant operations and ensure operating procedures are strictly followedEnsure that the critical operating parameters are kept within pre-determined limitsPrepare, issue, close and cancel work permits in the Anode Furnace & Casting Wheel areaMaintain required stock of all consumables at siteMonitor and interpret assay results from process streamsActively seek more information and assistance from other sources as required to diagnose and correct any problems with operating equipment and processes (e.g. maintenance, metallurgists)Understand and identify all relevant plant equipment, process control and emergency systems; be able to explain these clearly to othersProvide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an ongoing basisLiaise closely with his counterpart in the Peirce Smith Converter areaAssist in the cold and hot commissioning of the Anode Furnaces and the Casting WheelsOther duties as directed by the Shift Coordinator - Secondary SmeltingQualificationsDesirable:Tertiary Qualification in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering or EquivalentExperienceRequired:At least 5 years of supervisory experience in copper smeltingDesirable:Supervisory experience with Anode FurnacesSupervisory experience with Anode Casting WheelsFamiliarity with typical process plant equipment such as pumps, blowers and instrumentationFamiliarity with safety systems, permit systems and procedures in a process plant environmentBEHAVIOURAL TRAITSGood at maintaining operating standards, workforce discipline and teamwork.Good communication skillsSystematic monitoring and assessment skillsOPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTSShould have a good understanding of the:Equipment in the area of supervision, its purpose and how it operatesProcess Flow Sheet in the area of supervisionVisit our website and register for instant job alerts at Follow us for the latest news at If you are already a First Quantum employee and have access to the First Quantum network, log into First Quantum MINE > Careers to apply internally for this opportunity.
