Eaton MSD are actively hiring for a CFD specialist to join the Simulation, Modelling and Performance team based at Wimborne.

This role will have a bias towards CFD, so strong experience is required in this field, however as the work undertaken by the Simulation, Modelling & Performance team is very varied, a good overall knowledge of simulation and modelling is required.

The team is responsible for the performance of the Probe & Drogue Air-to-Air Refuelling systems and the Weapons Carriage & Release systems; these systems can include hydromechanical, electromechanical and software subsystems. Using a combination of industry standard and internally developed tools the team provides support to the current products and is heavily involved in R&D to help shape future products. Our capability to model Probe & Drogue refuelling is world leading and strives to reduce development and customer flight test costs.

As a Simulation and Modelling Performance Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Modelling of products at all stages of the life cycle from concept through to in-service.
  • First principle hand calculations up to complex co-simulations of multiple integrated systems.
  • Real-time, hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop modelling.
  • Integration with customer and supplier models.
  • Component, system, ground and flight test support.
  • Detailed analysis of large data sets to confirm performance, validate models and solve problems.

As a Simulation, Modelling & Performance Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • A minimum of a degree in a relevant engineering or physics discipline.
  • Experience using Ansys Fluent in a post graduate or industry environment - Essential
  • Experience modelling rotating machinery e.g. pumps, ram air turbines, etc. in Ansys.
  • Experience modelling bluff body and transient external aerodynamics in Ansys.
  • Experience modelling high-speed short-duration dynamics of pneumatic systems with Dytran, LS Dyna or another tool - desirable.
  • Experience modelling impact dynamics such as bird strike, crash tests or drop tests with Dytran, LS Dyna or another tool - desirable.
  • A strong understanding of engineering subjects including solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, control theory and aerodynamics.
  • Either a PhD or 3+ years' experience in a related role.
