PATRIOT is looking for an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to join our Ft. Leavenworth, KS team. The ideal candidate should have experience as a Site Safety and Health Officer on Government projects with effective relationship building.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for all aspects of project safety which requires an understanding of occupational workplace standards and procedures at all levels of government.
- Implement and enforce the US Army Corps of Engineers Safety & Health Requirements, as well as state and federal laws for the inspection of equipment and working conditions, and to prevent accidents, fires, and related hazardous events.
- Read and interpret specifications and plans to determine requirements and planning procedures.
- Conduct and participate in all health and safety and project related meetings.
- Ensure adherence to company safety and insurance policies, safety protocols, and OSHA compliance.
- Partner with the project manager to budget, manage and forecast subcontractor labor, equipment, materials, small tools, consumables, and general conditions.
- Maintain quality control by frequent and regular inspection of work-in-progress.
- Complete, review, and submit all safety and health related reports and records in an accurate and timely manner.
- Analyze subcontractor and production problems.
- Oversee and authorize the procurement of project safety supplies and equipment (e.g., PPE).
- Conduct daily safety and health inspections, recording all violations, and reporting to management when remediation needs to occur.
- Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution.
- Ensure sub-contractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
- Coordinate response to on-site emergencies and interface with off-site and on-site emergency response entities.
- Develop and conduct safety training, including new employee or refresher training, and on-the-spot training to all personnel.
- Review all site safety and health policies, plans, and procedures and ensure that they comply with safety and health standards.
- Assist in the development and oversight of all safety and health plans including the accident prevention plan.
- Work with the management team to develop new safety policies, refine existing policies, modify design requirements, and draft construction-related specifications.
- Perform on-site hazard analysis and provide the superintendent and project manager with recommendations.
- Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisors/management or as assumed through personal initiative.
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of field construction including systems, practices, general engineering principals and construction techniques, materials, methods, and sequencing.
- Completion of the 30-hour OSHA certification in the last 5 years.
- At least five years of experience working as an SSHO or in a similar safety position in the construction industry.
- Experience working for a federal contractor or on federal construction projects.
- Experience with USACE RMS 3.0 is .
- Completion of a 40 Hour EM 385-1-1 Certified Site Safety & Health Course is .
- Ability to gain entrance onto a federal installation.
- Current, or able to obtain, CPR/First Aid certification.
- Strong organization and computer skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction and engineering plans, specifications, and other documentation.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Physical Job Requirements:
- This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position seated half the time.
- The person in this position may need to move about construction sites that may include stairs.
- The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) less than 40 lbs.
- This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors and typing on computers.
