SMC Manufacturing Technician

Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) SMC group is seeking a Manufacturing Technician Our team works on-site 4x12 schedule located at our SMC facility with every Friday off! Responsibilities Include:

  • Exhibit the skills and knowledge for correct, efficient, and safe operations of complex and sophisticated manufacturing equipment and/or instrumentation.
  • Position requires a skilled level as assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, and require contributions of original work.
  • Mastery of knowledge base and skill associated with sophisticated manufacturing equipment
  • Monitor work of more junior staff and report progress to line management.
  • Ensure equipment is operated in accordance with approved procedures, maintained correctly, and safely locked and tagged out when required.
  • Work in radiological and non-radiological areas wearing the proper personal protective equipment (i.e. respirators, RAD clothing, eyewear, shoes, etc.).
  • Solve problems, troubleshoot, and perform diagnostics using computers or CNC machine controllers.
  • Operate a variety of lift trucks to move materials, boxes, pallets, product containers, etc.
  • Weld product related materials; Prepare unit components; Prepare units for proper shipping.
  • Prepare and maintain proper documentation of work.
  • Identifies and leads efforts to develop new procedures and methods for complex and non-routine processes.
  • Critically analyzes design requirements, experimental plans, standard processes, etc., and proposes appropriate alternatives.
  • Maintain qualification for operations; support committee assignments, and training.
  • Operate the facility in such a manner that the certification and creditability of the facility is performed safely and sufficiently.
  • Handle Project classified and unclassified sensitive data/materials properly while maintaining vigilance against security infractions/violations.
  • Provide expertise and creative solutions to broad and/or complex technical problems.
  • Work independently under general supervision and independently interacts with customers and other INL organizations; may provide some supervision to junior staff.

Minimum Requirements:

  • TS0400: High School diploma and 6 years proven experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Requirements:

  • CNC Laser and/or Waterjet Cutter experience preferred.
  • 3 years of welding experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in preparation and validation of Laboratory Instructions and associated technical documentation, using LWP-21220 or equivalent process.

Job Information

  • TS0400: Salary Grade 180 ($62,640 - $100,224).

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
