Position Description: Solidworks Mechanical Designer

Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for researching and developing ideas and processes for new and existing products. Improvement upon the performance and design of existing products.

Primary responsibilities

  • Design, model, and analyze prototypes for new products.
  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) and SolidWorks to design concepts
  • Use computer-aided engineering (CAE) to analyze concepts
  • Conduct research and create design proposals for projects.
  • Establish design briefs.
  • Create concepts, performance, and production criteria.
  • Identify and select materials needed for production.
  • Produce final detail design drawings and specifications.
  • Create parts lists.
  • List costs involved in production.
  • Make prototypes of working models for demonstration.
  • Assist with appropriate production processes.

Required Skills for: SolidWorks Design Engineer

  • Proficient with latest versions of Solidworks software.
  • Thinking Creatively -- Developing, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, 3) Critical Thinking -- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 4) Equipment Selection -- Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job. 5) Complex Problem Solving -- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 6) Speaking -- Talking to others to convey information effectively. 7) Judgment and Decision Making -- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Develop product/component solid models, detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies/tools, and controls, using SolidWorks software platforms. 2) Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve issues. 3) Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed. 4) Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-aided engineer (CAE) equipment. 5) Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials. 7) Confer with customer representatives to review schematics and answer questions pertaining to installation off systems.

Knowledge, Experience for: Design Engineer; 1) Design -- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models. 2) Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various mechanical and electrical equipment. 3) Mathematics -- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. 5) Manufacturing and Construction -- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or manufacturing of boilers and water heaters.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $50,000.00 - $63,000.00 per year
