The WCIRB performs a number of functions to accurately measure the cost of providing workers' compensation benefits and ensure a healthy workers’ compensation system. Summary
The Senior Business Systems Analyst (Sr. BSA) reviews and evaluates business needs to create system solutions that improve business efficiency and productivity. Sr. BSA develops/documents business requirements and assists in creating functional specifications that drive development and implementation. Sr. BSA functions as a liaison between IT and various business stakeholders to ensure alignment of project expectations while assisting in the planning and monitoring of development and maintenance efforts. In addition to project development activities, the Sr. BSA performs maintenance and production support roles for assigned applications, acting as an advocate for the business and point of contact for IT.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Analysis & Requirements
- Work with stakeholders to understand and document business requirements and work with Product Owner to ensure user stories are complete.
- Translate business requirements into user stories and functional specifications that can be implemented by the development team.
- Assist the Product Owner in refining and clarifying user stories and ensuring that they are well understood by the development team
- Analyzes and documents business needs and objectives as well as systems and data requirements and translates into user stories.
- Reviews findings with project team members and other stakeholders and presents solution options.
- Creates and manages project artifacts, ensuring traceability between requirements, use cases, process diagrams, logical design, screen mock-ups, test cases, and other artifacts as required to meet project objectives.
- Provides walkthrough and obtains approval of project documentation.
- Proposes, enhances, enforces, and adheres to standard practices and procedures.
Solving Business Problems
- Works closely with the Product Owner, Project Sponsor, and Project Manager to analyze and conceptualize the business needs.
- Synthesizes business needs into creative solutions that achieve business objectives.
- Collaborates with business, IT engineers, and QA analysts, translating business problems into detailed requirements and possibly recommended solutions.
- Analyze current business processes and suggest improvements or solutions that can be implemented in the product.
Organization and Project Leadership
- Develops project plans and coordinates small to medium-sized projects to ensure customer requests are effectively managed and completed on time, on budget, and per EPMO standards.
- Ensures project artifacts are updated and properly managed through the project lifecycle.
Production Support and Maintenance
- Coordinates production support items with the Help Desk and Support team.
- Supports the Incident Management, Change Management, and Release Management processes.
- Conducts training and provides Business guidance and direction to IT staff, help desk resources, and application users that will use and support the application.
- Provides application support and system administration as required.
- Develops reports, views, forms, and other features as supported by the available tools.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or relevant Business degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Possession of, or active pursuit of, a certificate from a recognized Business Analysis Professional program or 4+ years of both demonstrated experience performing the BSA job functions while also demonstrating strong insurance domain acumen.
- 4+ years of experience documenting business processes, analysis, requirements development, documentation or test case development and execution, and supporting user adoption as a member of application development projects or maintenance efforts.
- 2+ years of experience working with major databases/spreadsheets, including working knowledge of SQL
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, Service now, Visio, wireframe tools or similar tools is required.
- Experience working with and establishing requirements management tools and processes.
- Experience in various project and software development life cycles, with demonstrated experience planning, developing, and managing work activities and projects.
- Experience in CRM-based applications is a plus.
