PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design of low and medium voltage power systems and acts as the primary technical interface for the equipment they are assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform design, troubleshooting and commissioning job functions as needed to support IEM’s products and to achieve customer goals
- Create drawing packages for the manufacturing of custom switchgear and switchboards to applicable industry standards
- Support production during the product construction and testing by answering any technical inquiries.
- Work with mechanical designers to layout out and create rough front views/plan views of switchgear and switchboards.
- Select components and create detailed bills of materials for our products
- Write sequence of operation documents to define automatic system functionality
- Engineers are expected to take a project from the design conception stage through the manufacturing process and further to project completion
- Perform design job functions as needed to support IEM’s products and to achieve customer goals
- Support sales and the project management team in answering customer questions as it relates to the design.
- Often works on larger projects that range from ($300k to $40 million)
- Complete short field assignments where design consultation is required (generally less than 3 days at a time and not to exceed 10% of total time)
COMPETENCIES:
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering principles and theories as they apply to power industry and switchgear.
- Experienced in utilizing AutoCAD for electrical design.
- Advanced understanding of mechanical layout and considerations.
- Project/Task management and the ability to carry out a plan that moves a task to completion.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, other technical resources and management.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
- Ability to lead small teams of people to achieve a larger task.
- Willing to work with less experienced engineers for mentoring and training

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Four year degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience .
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a related field .
- Previous field service experience, knowledge and understanding is a big plus.
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.)
- Significant experience with Autocad drafting software.
- Industrial automation experience is a big plus.
