Job Description
· Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, and ensures the facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
· Provides leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
· Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs. (10%)
· Serves as an expert to provide engineering solutions to engineering problems. (10%)
· Provides accurate engineering designs and products. Directs an engineering team for engineering and drawing productions. (20%)
· Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such as cash flow requirements are identified. (15%)
· Provides coordination and communication with other departments such that total project schedules and expenditures are maintained in accordance with commitments. (10%)
· Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and updates project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (5%)
· Monitors project expenditures, and practices cost control such that project commitments are met. (5%)
· Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (5%)
· Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non-standard or complex substation design problems. (5%)
· Assigns and reviews the work of other department staff. (15%)
· Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
· Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements
· Associate degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field; or equivalent related work experience.
· Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in engineering and 15 years industry experience as a practicing engineer and performing highly technical work of a specialized nature.
· PE License required.
· Specialized Knowledge and Skills
· Demonstrated knowledge of: Comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge in substation/control engineering principles and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
· Economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures, and company policies, rules, and regulations.
· Utility engineering practices and procedures, construction methods and material specifications.
· Demonstrated skill such as: Directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work of a staff of engineers, technicians, and designers.
· Ability to prove judgment and solve unusual problems with a high level of independent decision-making.
