Responsibilities will include leading the mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning of new target systems. The engineer in this role will routinely interface with Jefferson Lab staff outside of the Target Group to develop performance and schedule requirements for new and existing target systems.Staff Engineer candidates can qualify at two different experience levels which correlate with a difference in responsibility and essential job functions, outlined below:SEII:In this role, you will…Estimate the cost and schedule of subsystems within Target Group projects and will provide written and oral design and status reports on those subsystemsAssist in defining the Scope of Work for Target Group projects and assist the Responsible Engineer (RE) on these projectsWork alongside Target Group scientists, engineers, designers, and technicians on all phases of new target systems: from concept and design, to fabrication, assembly and testing, and finally to installation, operation, and maintenanceInterface with external vendors and contractors to ensure quality components are fabricated, inspected, and delivered.Specify performance requirements for various target components using process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), procurement specifications, and system models. Design process piping and unfired pressure vessel systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including: ASME piping, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, and JLab Pressure and Vacuum System Rules.Ensure all required documentation is generated during target development including a Statement of Work specifying system requirements, standards, and acceptance criteria. Present technical design and status reports. Defend system designs and engineering analyses at engineering and safety reviews.SEIII:In this role, you will…Direct the work of junior engineers, designers, and technical staff within the JLab Target Group during the development of new target systems.Serve as the responsible point of contact for the design, procurement and fabrication of subcontracted components. Interface with external vendors and contractors to ensure quality components are fabricated, inspected, and delivered.Specify performance requirements for various target components using process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), procurement specifications, and system models. Design process piping and unfired pressure vessel systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including: ASME piping, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, and JLab Pressure and Vacuum System Rules.Ensure all required documentation is generated during target development including a Statement of Work specifying system requirements, standards, and acceptance criteria. Present technical design and status reports.
