This senior technical leader will be accountable for defining and implementing a robust device characterization and validation flow using internal and external resources, summarizing test results to internal and external stakeholders, managing root cause analysis activities, and providing a critical review of corrective action plans.This role will own the definition, design, and implementation of test protocols and stations for the characterization and validation of III-V laser diodes and amplifiers for External Laser Sources serving the datacom market. On the road to device validation, they will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify gaps in device performance uncovered during characterization, manage the root cause analysis activities across internal and external foundry and test sites, and actively participate in the development of correction action plans with device designers and process engineers.Lumentum’s Datacom Business Unit is a leader in providing laser chips for data center and wireless applications through EML, DML, and VCSEL-based solutions. Our business is growing due to the global expansion of data centers carrying higher speeds of traffic and the deployment of 5G wireless. Additionally, we are focused on expanding our business to meet the market needs of next-generation laser sources.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the characterization and validation of III-V laser diodes and amplifiers for use in External Laser SourcesOrganize and present results to internal and external stakeholders, including test coverage, statistical data analysis, GR&R, gap analysis, and FMEA.Build strong relationships with device designers, fabs, outsource service providers, equipment vendors, customers, and internal organizations including PLM, Sales, and OperationsSupport reliability testing through the definition of appropriate stress conditions and fixturesSupport production test definition, bring up, and debug through collaborative test DOEDevelop innovative testing solutions meeting R&D and production requirementsSteward our culture valuing diversity, inclusion, and belonging in business practices and strategiesTravel up to 20% domestic and internationallyKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Strong track record of building III-V device testing capabilities, spanning test coverage, test method definition, equipment selection, automation software, GR&R, statistical analysis, and report generation.Proven ability to deliver a robust III-V device test flow enabling clear and rapid feedback to design engineers, fab process engineers, and stakeholdersProven ability to distill product requirements into testing requirements, including clear identification of coverage gaps, potential, and realizedDeep technical knowledge of III-V laser characterization and validation methodologies, reliability limiters, assessment methodologies, and production test approachesDeep understanding of statistical data analysis, GR&R, and FMEAStrong leadership skills and effective communication will all constituentsLead with a growth mindset by injecting enthusiasm and unlocking potential MINIMUM EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, or related discipline with 10+ years of directly related product development experienceExpertise in III-V laser ecosystem spanning design, fabrication, validation, and reliability assessment Track record of developing differentiated III-V laser products, including DFB and DBR designsAbility to present, negotiate, and influence at the executive levelAbility to manage and develop diverse and global teams
