Staff Scientist will work out of the Orlando Metro Office located in Winter Park and be responsible for conducting pre-condition surveys and installing geotechnical instrumentation in accordance with approved monitoring plans. These duties will include:
- Showing up for work on-time and ready to complete assignments. The workday for staff scientists is typically eight hours and runs from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a 1/2-hour lunch period when in the office. Longer hours may be necessary to complete project assignments by deadlines. Field work hours are determined by the field schedule and may not correspond with the office hours.
- The employee must call in to the office or his supervisor daily in the morning and between 3:00 and 5:00 pm each day to receive his assignment for the following day or to review any schedule changes.
- Complete company and OSHA safety training.
- Conduct work in a safe manner that complies with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Keep Clients and Project Managers informed of project status.
- Complete assignments in a thorough and timely fashion. Communicate with project manager regarding budget and schedule on each assignment. Review our proposal for scope and budget prior to executing work.
- Complete company’s pre-condition survey and seismograph operator training program.
- Travel to out-of-town jobsites to cover field work.
- Conduct pre-condition surveys of residential and commercial buildings in accordance with the company’s quality standards.
- Use seismographs to measure blast and construction vibrations.
- Developing a general knowledge of vibration and air overpressure standards and regulations.
- Conduct computer analysis of seismic data collected in the field.
- Report preparation.
- Maintenance and shipping/receiving of seismographs and maintain seismograph log.
- Construct and install remote seismograph stations.
- Use other geotechnical instrumentation as necessary. Proper training will be provided.
- Prepare thorough documentation in the field of all field activities for in project file and final reports.
- Complete daily job tickets (site observations forms -SOR) detailing daily activities and submit by end of each day.
- Complete weekly timesheet and job tickets (site observations forms -SOR) detailing daily activities and submit by 10:00 am each Monday.
- Use Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare reports and data tables.
- Assist project managers in preparing proposals and reports.
- Obtain ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification within first two years of employment.
- Communicate equipment needs prior to running out of materials.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
