Our client is an award winning, employee-owned civil engineering firm delivering creative, practical and successful designs for clientele throughout California and internationally. They are looking for an experienced Stormwater Project Manager who is comfortable managing people and rolling up sleeves to get projects completed.
Function of The Role
- Serve as a company-wide resource for hydrology and hydraulics, LID design, stormwater infrastructure design, hydro-modification analysis and solutions for land development projects, municipal stormwater feasibility studies and regional watershed improvement projects (ex. Measure W Safe Clean Water Program). Oversee stormwater engineers and guide their development and growth.
- Oversee and provide consistency with WQMP Plan Checks including review of LID design, hydromodification, hydrology and grading plans; work with applicant’s team to update design for approvals, and update City’s plan check documentation process for new requirements.
- Work in partnership with the survey and geomatics department to advance MS4 Stormwater Services including stormwater asset management, digital twins, TMDL compliance, watershed resources management and online dashboards.
- Serve as a leader on the stormwater team and help build expertise in stormwater management throughout all offices. Motivate staff to advance individual career growth, foster team camaraderie and grow ESOP culture throughout the team and company.
- Participate in business development and marketing to benefit the company including the pursuit of new stormwater leads and opportunities beyond Orange County and Los Angeles counties including the Bay area, Central Coast and San Diego regions and western region States.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Meet with stormwater staff on a regular basis to guide their professional development and confidence.
- Supervise exhibit preparation, technical reports, cost estimates, and other client deliverables. Assure work/design is of high quality, cost effective, incorporates Full Circle Thinking, and meets the agency and client standards.
- Supervise or provide direct contact with agencies, supervise report/exhibit processing for approval, work with agencies to resolve design problems and determine compliance with agency requirements.
- Act as water quality point person with all outside consultants (geotechnical, landscape, plumbing, architect, etc.) and internal engineering departments. Initiate “kick-off” meetings, as appropriate, for various project phases.
- Conduct site investigations and other research for proposals, designs and marketing materials.
- Provide workload forecast to ensure team is properly utilized. Communicate need for additional resources with Sr. Project Manager.
- Conduct staff reviews and provide coaching/training.
- Responsible for seeing that time is properly charged to project and employee timecards are submitted in a timely manner.
- Provide oversight and management of project invoicing, budget monitoring, change orders, time card approvals and other administrative duties to increase profit margins.
- Track project budgets, provide billing instructions, and change order requests when required.
- Initiate, implement and promote new ideas and procedures incorporating Full Circle Thinking.
- Represent FEI in meetings with clients and agencies.
- Attend networking events to build relationships with key clients.
In coordination with Principal or Sr. Project Manager
- Supervises 1-5 employees within the Stormwater Team and support .
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education, Experience & Knowledge
- Any combination of a bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning or equivalent discipline from a four-year college or university
- 8-10 years experience in Municipal stormwater or land development -or- equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as the central water quality design figure for a team as well as experience mentoring and overseeing workflow of projects is required.
- Successful candidates will have well-developed problem solving, decision-making, communication and team building skills and the ability to manage projects from start to finish.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D preferred as well as QSP/QSD certification.
- PE preferred.
