WHB Engineers is a well-established and growing Civil Engineering and Construction Management firm with offices in San Diego, San Mateo, Dublin, Pleasant Hill and Chico, California. Our firm provides a full array of engineering, including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers.

Our staff works on a broad array of challenging and interesting public and private projects specializing in the design, rehabilitation, and construction of water and wastewater facilities, waterfront structures, and other civil infrastructure. WHB is an industry-leading expert in structural design of large concrete reservoirs in the Americas and the Middle East.

The Opportunity

WHB's San Diego, CA office is actively seeking Structural Engineers with five or more years of experience in civil/structural engineering to perform planning and design of water infrastructure such as tanks, reservoirs, pump stations, utility vaults, and waterfront structures. The ideal candidate will have experience with structural analysis, calculations, preparing plans, specifications, and inspection reports.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity is organized, has solid communication skills, can work independently with minimum supervision, is team oriented, personable, and possesses a strong desire to make a positive contribution to the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform design, analysis, and inspection of structures
  • Structural design and analysis with timber, steel, concrete, and composite materials
  • Prestressed concrete analysis and design
  • Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports
  • Work with engineering team to coordinate engineering disciplines and resolve design problems
  • Perform detailed design work and detailed checking of design work completed by others
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers and designers in developing final design plans
  • Assistance with preparation of proposals and estimate
  • Development of work plans and schedules
  • Assisting in the management of projects to ensure they are on schedule, within budget and meet the requirements of our clients
  • Perform construction site inspections

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional Civil Engineering (PE) license in California is required
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural Engineering, master's degree is but not required
  • Minimum of five years of practical work experience
  • Write, review and critique proposals, plans, designs, or estimates related to the civil or structural disciplines
  • Provide technical direction or supervision to engineering professionals, engineering, or computer-aided design (CAD) technicians, or other professional and technical personnel
  • Assist in the management of projects to ensure they are on schedule, within budget and meet the requirements of our clients
  • Perform studies, calculations, designs and preparation of plans and reports in accordance with project requirements and engineering standards
  • Solid experience with the MS Office Suite

Qualifications:

  • Experience with civil and structural engineering as the engineer of record or principal in charge on projects submitted to public agencies
  • Candidate shall have a California Structural Engineering (SE) or be willing to work to obtain this license
  • Excellent customer service skills including an ability to interact professionally and knowledgeably with clients
  • Background in structural analysis using SAP2000 or RISA
  • Experience with MathCAD

We offer a generous salary and benefits package that includes company paid medical and dental insurance, vacation, and a 401(k) plan. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $160,000, depending upon the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
