Survey Technical Manager (Nationwide Travel Required)

THIS ROLE:

This position is specific to dredging operations and is a hybrid of a multitude of disciplines needed to acquire and successfully maintain dredging projects. The goal of this position is to assist the Director of DEPTH (Dredge Engineering, Production, Technology, and Hydrography) in duties pertaining to dredging operations. This position leverages the employees technical knowledge to the broadness of all dredging operations instead of focused on one individual project.

WHAT YOULL DO:

New Build Projects

  • Install equipment on new assets. This includes equipment verification & preparation, hardware installation, system integration and calibration, testing and troubleshooting, and documentation of work.
  • Work on feasibility, design and builds of new dredges
  • Help with designs and drawings for new and existing dredges, buckets & scows
  • Assist with any CAD work
  • Crane load calculations

Project Transition

  • Populate sheets and Production Client with subjobs and corresponding estimated production rates to report against
  • Mobilize and demobilize project sites by setting up/breaking down & calibrating survey equipment (base station, tide gauge, survey boat, etc.)

Survey & Positioning Equipment

  • Provide training to site staff on proper usage and maintenance of equipment.
  • Keep master inventory of survey equipment including locations, transfers, requests, maintenance schedules, repairs, etc.
  • Design, source and setup survey boats and positioning for vessels
  • 24/7 equipment troubleshooting (Tech Support for surveyors and crew)
  • Go to site for mobilizations, equipment setups or repairs/troubleshooting
  • Repair, maintain, calibrate and build sensors and equipment.
  • Manage third party vendors for survey equipment and survey support.
  • Organize scow DQM inspections, mobilize scow tracking equipment, welding that needs to be done to scows for the instrumentation, manage scow DQM monitoring vendors
  • Ensure backup systems are installed on equipment to minimize downtime
  • Create and maintain dredge positioning system network diagrams, schematics and other resources

WHO YOU ARE:

Certifications and Other Requirements

bachelors degree in Hydrography, Geomatics, Surveying, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in hydrographic surveying, dredging operations, or marine geospatial data management.

Aptitudes

Proficiency in hydrographic survey software (e.g., HYPACK, DREDGEPACK)

Strong knowledge of GNSS positioning, bathymetric data collection, and dredge monitoring systems.

Familiarity with underwater acoustic technology, side-scan sonar, and LiDAR systems.

Experience with survey equipment calibration, integration, and troubleshooting.

Understanding of maritime regulations, safety protocols, and environmental compliance.

Knowledge of maritime regulations, environmental compliance, and permitting requirements.

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Requirements

Rotational 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off with 60 additional flex days

Willingness to travel to project sites or Long Beach yard as needed.

Ability to work on tight deadlines for project needs outside normal business hours.
