Tail Lift Fitter / Field Service Engineer

Our client is a well established and successful manufacturer. They are seeking a skilled and motivated field-based Service Engineer to join their team within. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of passenger lifts / vehicle tail lifts at various customer sites throughout the South of England. You will be based in the field in the south, but working in close conjunction with their office based After Sales Manager who will allocate work and support your day-to-day needs.

• The role requires extensive travel, with working away from home when required, including overnight stays.

• You must also be flexible with your working hours depending on the needs of the customer.

• You are prepared to spend several weeks at their factory in Birmingham to undertake your training. During this time, the company will provide accommodation and meals.

Package:

• £32k - £35k starting salary, subject to experience.

• Overtime will be available and required from time to time. Candidates must be able to and willing to support with overtime working.

• 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hours are flexible subject to workload during any given week with a working schedule communicated weekly.

• 22 days holiday + Statutory Holidays + An extra day off for your birthday!

Responsibilities:

Installation and Commissioning:

• Install and commission passenger lifts according to technical specifications and safety standards. This means travelling to a vehicle convertor factory and working to install and commission each lift while causing minimal disruption for the customer.

• Perform site assessments to ensure appropriate installation conditions and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Servicing and Maintenance:

• Conduct pre-planned routine maintenance and safety inspections of passenger lifts.

• Complete LOLER Statutory Thorough Examinations and complete relevant paperwork.

• Perform regular servicing and health checks on existing products for customers.

Warranty Support:

• Travel to customer sites to respond to warranty calls.

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in a timely manner.

• Replace or repair worn or defective parts to ensure the safe operation of lifts.

Full training will be given on their specific software systems. Day-to-day you won’t be micromanaged, so you need to be able to structure your workload independently.

Requirements:

• At least 3 years’ experience in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic engineering and support is essential.

• Previous experience with vehicle tail lifts (passenger or cargo) would be ideal but is not essential.

• Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic engineering skills.

• Good problem solving and analytical skills.

• Experience in reading technical documents and drawings.

• A good level of basic IT skill.

• Good written and verbal communication skills. You’ll often need to explain complicated ideas in simple ways so the ability to do this with speed and accuracy are vital.

• Good customer service skills including a friendly and positive personality

• A full UK driving license.

• A willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours.

• The ability to work away from home when required, including overnight stays.

• Physically fit and able to handle the demands of the job.

This job would suit someone with previous experience in a similar job such as; Tail Lift Fitter / Passenger Lift Installation Engineer / Mobile Service Engineer / Auto Electrician / Vehicle Mechanic / Coach Builder / Vehicle Assembler / Mechanical Fitter / Mobile Service Technician / HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / PSV Engineer / MHE or FLT Service Engineer, or someone mechanically minded from the Automotive industry (with some knowledge of vehicle electrics)
