Technical Manager

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, motivated Technical Manager to join a well-established Bedfordshire company developing innovative special purpose machinery for the food and beverage manufacturing market.

As Technical Manager you will be responsible for product safety, quality and compliance management including creating and maintaining codes, records and procedures relating to the company’s compliance and conformity to ASME, Machinery Directives, PD5500, Puwer, CE/CA.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, assess and ensure compliance with all relevant technical legislation such as PD5500, ASME, Puwer, Machinery Directive, CE/CA marking etc.
  • Identify and manage quality plans and certification including conducting physical inspections of pressure vessel materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and manage welder qualification activities such as monitoring, testing and creation of records, WPQR’s, WPS, PWP’s etc,
  • Liaison with suppliers, customers and inspection authorities including 3rd party witnesses,
  • Assume day to day control of the business Quality system and consider new systems/policies as appropriate.
  • Provide technical support to sales including drawings and marketing/commercial documentation.
  • Control and administration of technical libraries and records including Bills of Materials, spares lists, manufacturing and assembly manuals.
  • Checking customer URS/Specifications for technical requirements/specifications prior to quotation or contract signature.

Requirements

  • Degree, HNC/HND and/or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a similar role in a manufacturing / process engineering environment -preferably relating to the Food Processing Industry.
  • Process engineering experience including pressure vessel manufacture, pneumatics, hydraulics, fluid flow controls, heating and cooling techniques.
  • Experience in the documentation and inspection of pressure vessels and machinery, with NDT visual welding inspection.
  • Experienced in quality systems - ASME would be advantageous.
  • Strong problem solving and excellent time management skills.
  • An understanding of systems that are PLC controlled is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills
