THE OPPORTUNITY
Western is hiring for a Technical Sales Manager based in our Calvert Division in Vancouver, WA as part of our Engineered Wood Products Division.
Our Engineered Wood Products include Douglas Fir, Yellow Cedar, and Hemlock glulam beams, arches and columns. Primary markets include North America and Asia.
What You’ll Do: Generating new project related business, identifying opportunities to promote WFP products for use.
The Technical Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and executing initiatives to grow business opportunities in mass timber. This position will coordinate with internal and external manufacturing resources to deliver fit for purpose products for EWP construction. This position will contribute by building relationships with new AEC customers including architects, designers, general contractors and fabricators to increase market capacity, and develop competencies within the manufacturing organization to meet market requirements.
Who You Are: Our ideal candidate has at least 5 years of experience in Mass Timber sales and estimating or Mass Timber Pre-Construction or other structural related components and a post-secondary degree in engineering, architecture, or wood sciences. The candidate should also have proven leadership ability and experience with structural materials, connectors, or other component sales.

Work Environment: This position will be based out of our Calvert office in Vancouver, WA. Ability to travel and work remotely as required is essential to this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities within target markets;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with architects, designers, contractors, builders, and other key stakeholders;
- Generate new project-related business, identifying opportunities to promote WFP products for use;
- Provide technical support for development of new engineered wood products.
Product Technical Support
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of our engineered wood products and their applications;
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients to promote WFP products and ensure design requirements are fulfilled;
- Work closely with customers, architects and design professionals to ensure engineered wood product design specifications meet project requirements.
Sales Strategy
- Maintaining the highest ethical standards, develop and deliver an integrated sales plan that is aligned with overall sales strategy and WFP growth objectives;
- Work in collaboration with Logistics and Operations to execute Sales and marketing strategies and maximize value;
- Collaborate with the sales team to create compelling proposals and presentations.
Customer Engagement
- Conduct product presentations and training sessions for clients, attend industry events;
- Address customer inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
Market Analysis
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market conditions;
- Provide feedback to the marketing and product development teams to enhance our offerings;
- Regularly maintains the company’s relationships with top accounts to maximize sell-through and channel efficiency and growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Experience with sales and customer service;
- Experience in a related technical field (construction, engineering, architecture or similar). Engineered wood products / mass timber experience is ;
- Post-secondary education such as degree in Engineering, Architecture, Wood Sciences, or related field;
- Experience with developing sales strategy and product development plans.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineered wood products sales and manufacturing;
- Strong understanding of codes, standards, construction processes and materials for engineered wood products;
- Well-developed communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to provide customers service and build and maintain strong customer relationships;
- Proficiency with computer systems including MS Office, CAD, ERP systems is ;
- High level of integrity and professionalism;
- Ability to work remotely, and travel as required.
