Job Title: TIG/MIG Welder


Job Type: Non-Exempt


Report to: Welding Mentor


Summary:

The Welder will learn how to weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. The welder will learn and be required to complete small/simple fabrications and large complex fabrications to specifications. The Welder is required to comply with all MPI policies and will be overseen by the welding mentor during the .

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Read and comprehend product blueprints and layouts to accurately fit structural parts together in shop in preparation to welding
  2. Understand American Welding Society standard symbols
  3. Plan details of work order procedures; gather required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job
  4. Lay out guidelines or marks on metal parts and cut metal with a cutting torch
  5. Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  6. Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage
  7. Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded
  8. Weld metal structural components together in the fabrication of stainless steel, aluminum, and other structures
  9. Perform first piece inspections as well as all subsequent inspections as required by RMF standards
  10. Adjust welding equipment to its prescribed settings
  11. Utilize safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment
  12. Operates power tools
  13. Operate forklift if needed once certified
  14. Change gas tanks as needed
  15. Perform simple maintenance repairs as required
  16. Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered
  17. All other duties assigned


Required Qualifications:

Education:

Must be at least a senior in high school or college student and wanting to pursue a career in welding.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Time Management
  • Problem Solving Skills
  • Basic understanding of basic mathematics

Ability to:

  • Read blueprints
  • Read measuring devices (Tape Measures, etc.)
  • Read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Use proper personal protective equipment
