Job Description



Reporting to General Manager, the Transport Operations Manager will deliver consistent performance overseeing and being responsible for the day to day running of the transport operation to ensure that all daily targets are met in the most cost effective, efficient and safe manner in line with our policies and procedures. To take responsibility for supporting aspects of team performance whilst encouraging and leading continuous improvement activities within the department.



Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08.00-18.00



Key Duties of an Transport Operations Manager:



Proactively contribute to the long-term resource planning of the site in regard to assets and recruitment and lead the short and medium term provision of resource

Work collaboratively with our Myworkforce team to ensure compliance of all MWF tasks including resource planning and cost-effective utilisation of all drivers and equipment.

Leading the way in terms of best practice regarding safety and ensuring your team understand the importance of being safe in the workplace at all times.

Proactively seeks to understand financial performance of the operation and takes ownership for addressing inefficiencies which impact on the depot’s P&L

Actively promote and ensure compliance with transport policies, procedures and legislation.

Develop the Transport team in increasing engagement, communication and people development.

Manage and develop a team of Drivers, Shift Managers and Front Desk personnel in order to deliver a high-quality service to customers.

Responsible for ensuring the adherence and compliance of Health & Safety, Employment legislation and Company policy.

To lead and partner with Health & Safety representative on local and site initiatives including H&S induction and training.

Responsible for vehicle management, including liaison with CAM.

Responsible for creation, reporting and analysis of departmental management information which aids with improving business performance. 

Ensure, advise and Instruct actions which keep site compliant to operating legislation.

Ensure all vehicles are compliant with legal, regulatory and contractual requirements.

Ensuring all transport staff deliver the service appropriate to the changing needs of customers in line with relevant guidance and individual risk assessments.

Build constructive working relationships with supplementary business departments.

Foster a positive working relationship with external suppliers to maximise business benefit.

Any other duties as required



Qualifications



CPC Qualification.

Experience in a Transport Management role is essential.

Ability to manage, motivate and lead a large team.

Experience in managing large fleets of HGVs.

Demonstrable experience of successful resource management and cost control.

Excellent organisation and communication skills.

Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI's.

Excellent understanding of Health and Safety processes.

Thrives in a fast paced, challenging and dynamic environment.

Ability to maintain the very highest levels of attention to detail even when under pressure.

IT Literate including Microsoft word, excel and outlook.
