Underground Construction Foreman

Management of an underground construction crew. This crew performs directional boring, vibratory plowing, Trenching, Pull Box setting, installing duct and conduit, and pulling cable. The management will include but not be limited to personnel, equipment, and materials. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

·       Supervision and Management of the Installation and/or maintenance of communications infrastructure and electrical components of transportation systems, including the following: 

§  Intelligent transportation systems (ITS)  

§  Traffic signals 

§  Roadway Lighting Systems 

·       Responsible for training and providing technical support to subordinates. 

·       Completes reports, logs and performs shift-to-shift communications in accordance with established policies, procedures and local practices. 

·       Corresponds both verbally and in writing with project management personnel from the various departments of transportation. 

·       Provides quality control for work performed on the project. 

·       Ensures that work is accomplished in a safe and efficient manner. 

·       Documents pay items completed to ensure payment. 

·       Approves payroll and leave request. 

·       Monitors and schedules vehicle and equipment service and maintenance. 

·       Schedules crews, equipment, and materials logistics to ensure project completion under budget and ahead of schedule. 

 

Required Skills and Experience: 

·       High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.   

·       Requires a minimum of 5 or more years of related experience.  

·       10 or more years’ experience in communications infrastructure, electrical, and/or ITS construction/maintenance.  

·       Formal training for project management at a college, university, or trade school is a plus. 

·       Journeyman Electrician Certification/Card or better is a plus. 

·       IMSA Level II Traffic Signal Technician or better is a plus.   

·       Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, project specifications and project plans. 

·       Ability to write/type routine reports and correspondence.   

·       Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

·       Good writing, communication, mechanical, and computer skills. 

·       Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite. 

·       Must be detail oriented. 

 

 

Other Requirements:  

·       Travel will be required. 

·       Must be able to work any shift, weekends or overtime as required. 

·       Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and moving traffic.  

·       Hazardous Materials Training is a plus 

·       IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certifications are a plus
