United Cooperative Services has an opening for the position of Underground (UG) Inspector/GIS Technician in the Granbury Engineering Department.
This position is a non-exempt position that starts at $28.30 per hour. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
The UG Inspector/GIS Technician will inspect primary/secondary underground (UG) facilities. This position will be responsible for the execution, tracking and management of United’s underground inspection cycle on a day-to-day basis. While the majority of tasks will require completion in the field, this position will also be responsible to transfer data from a collection device to the company network for utilization by Engineering Services.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Individual shall be responsible for reporting issues found during inspection to the proper departments using prescribed formats.
- Individual must be capable of using tools necessary to haul and spread dirt when backfill around devices is necessary as well as perform minor maintenance as necessary to UG facilities.
- Individual must demonstrate the ability to safely operate company vehicle while pulling a loaded trailer.
- Individual must demonstrate the ability to safely load, unload and operate utility vehicle.
- Individual shall have the ability to collect, download, and update data using GIS computer aided software.
- Individual shall observe safety hazards that exist or develop while completing scope of work. Become familiar with PPE and its application and utilize when necessary.
- Individual shall keep informed on and comply with all safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Individual shall be responsible for communication with member/landowner throughout the inspection process, including notice of intent and any follow up required.
- Individual shall be responsible for conducting mapping research in the field and in the office, to resolve conflicting information and ensure the accuracy of the data and provide said data for the creation of maps.
- Individual shall have the ability to operate computer workstation to update data for engineering database maps using GPS data from underground inspections
- Individual shall demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Individual shall have the ability to use Daffron, IOS mapping applications, Bluetooth devices, basic functions of GIS/CAD, and Microsoft Access/Excel to run queries, compare files, provide text files from queries for the storage and use of GIS data for the Accounting, Member Service, Engineering, Marketing and Operations Departments to perform their required duties; must also be able to use Microsoft Office for scheduling, tracking and completion of tasks.
- Individual must demonstrate the ability to update and provide benchmarking for Engineering Services Department.
- Individual must utilize necessary departmental resources; Member Service, Engineering and Operations to verify changes in the databases as necessary.
- Individual shall compile and perform necessary queries of the inspection databases.
- Individual must demonstrate the ability to extract information as required to text files or databases for data required by other departments of the Cooperative to perform their duties.
- The individual must have the ability to import/export files to/from GPS database for the purpose of editing and/or downloading.
- Adhere to and encourage United safety policies and procedures and offer recommendations to your supervisor to enhance the cooperative’s safety culture.

Vendors: Interact with vendors to deal with software or hardware support issues.
Members/Landowners: Interact with members and landowners to access property.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Equipment Operated: Position utilizes personal computers and computer terminals. Position requires operating GPS data collection devices and equipment as well as a company truck, trailer and utility vehicle.
Knowledge of:
- Geography
- Become familiar with industry terminology and symbology
- Read and interpret legal descriptions
- Communicate orally with customers, clients, and the public in face-to-face one-on-one settings or using a telephone
- Use graphic instructions such as maps, layouts or other visual aids
- Read and use zoning maps, quarter-section maps, plat maps, land use maps, single line maps, and aerial maps
- Travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces when conducting field inspections or performing survey work.
- Enter data into a computer terminal, PC, or other keyboard device requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand-eye movement
- Work cooperatively with other UCS employees
- Present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in the English
Abilities and Skills:
Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others. Must be computer literate and have the ability to operate in the Microsoft Windows environment as well as basic computer skills necessary to operate all standard office equipment on a regular basis. Individual must be able to follow detailed instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form as well as perform complex math calculations and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. This position requires the ability to write routine progress reports and correspondence using Microsoft Office Software. Must have and maintain a current Texas driver license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation, required to reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and on occasion lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both office and outside environments with exposure to moving mechanical parts with occasional overtime.
