Job Description:
Parsons is seeking candidates for a new Utilities CAD Lead position in Oakville, Ontario. The Utilities CAD Lead position will support the Utilities Team of computer-aided design (CAD) within a multidiscipline planning and design environment. The position will advance the Utilities team’s organization, training, consistency, skills, abilities, and performance in preparing drawings, general arrangement plans, non-standard details, typical sections, 3D models, quantity takeoffs, and other utilities outputs for municipal, and transportation engineering projects. Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Sheet Set Manager, ACC/BIM 360, Bentley MicroStation, ProjectWise and other related programs (e.g., OpenRoads Designer (ORD)), will be considered an asset , all to be used in the preparation of functional, preliminary, detailed design drawings, contract packages, and other materials used in studies, plans, and presentations.
The key responsibilities include:
Act as the “go to” individual when any member of the utilities CAD team is in need of CAD-related assistance or support.
Be the primary mentor for the utilities CAD team and coordinate other mentors.
Identify external training opportunities for utilities CAD users.
Coordinate requests for CAD related training.
Interprets and ensures conformance to applicable utilities standards and codes, as well as company policies and procedures. Understands and utilizes more advanced software to complete assignments.
Checks orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) drawings prepared by other utilities team.
Provide utilities CAD design support during the construction period, including design clarifications and revisions based on new field data.
Maintain written technology evaluations for future software and hardware adoption.
Ensure the implementation of Parsons Quality Systems on all utilities drawings and deliverables.
Review projects, when needed for a QA/QC check against the applicable utilities standards.
Design, organize and manage filing systems such as ProjectWise and drawing template creation for Utilities CAD files.
Maintain Utilities CAD document archive and retrieval for projects and maintain Utilities CAD software inventory.
Liaise with IT staff to assist with computing devices shortcomings and requirements
Provide support for utilities plotting and electronic file submissions.
Establish procedures to integrate Utilities CAD data with GIS information data
Continue to serve as a utilities senior designer working on projects in the area of the individual’s subject matter expertise (municipal, transit, structural, and/or transportation).
Prepare and support the preparation of utilities CAD design drawings for municipal and transportation engineering purposes including general arrangement plans, functional design plans, preliminary/detailed drawing packages, cross-sections, non-standard details, 3D model creation to support tender/contract package creation, including construction items/ quantity creation and estimating.
Experience and Qualifications:
Civil Engineering Technology Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in providing CAD support in the production of drawings, maps, plans, and other graphic aids.
A minimum of years (4) years using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, MicroStation and/or ORD, with a background knowledge of survey, GIS, and other related fields.
Knowledge and experience with the application of ASCE 38/22, CSA S250 and other related utilities standards (municipal, provincial, federal and TUP).
Direct experience in preparing CUP, based on record drawings, and SUE results, treatment preliminary design and final detailed design of municipal (water/wastewater, sewers), private utilities (gas, hydro and telecoms), for transportation (streets, highways, transit, active transportation facilities) projects.
Holding a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or Certified Technician (C. Tech.) is an asset.
Experience with Sheet Set Manager, BIM 360 - ACC (AutoDesk Construction Cloud), Bently ProjectWise. Experience with Dynamo.
Ability to successfully manage utilities CAD resources, assist with hiring new utilities CAD staff and track hardware, software and training needs.
Ability to prepare, create, and modify the utilities CAD drafting standards and templates based on client requirements, including written documentation of new design drafting procedures and work/production resource materials.
Ability to assist management with assigning and redistributing CAD design workload in a fast-paced working environment, with changing priorities based on client requirements.
Ability to successfully interact and communicate with a wide range of planning and design professionals.
Ability to liaise with industry vendor/training representatives and clients.
