Utility Locator (Power Distribution)

As a utility locator, you will accurately locate and mark underground utilities. You must take clear photos of your markings, update supervisors on completed tasks, and provide important notes. You must perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating and be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. To be successful in this role, you will need to possess strong physical labor skills, including the ability to lift, squat, bend, scoop, dig trenches, and stand for extended periods. You must also be willing to learn utility equipment and safety procedures.
Your Responsibilities as a Locator:
- Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities.
- Read and interpret utility maps/ prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
- Thoroughly search for underground utilities in an area, properly marking the locations, completing the necessary paperwork, and photographing each locate.
- Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
- Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities.
- Safely operating company vehicles to various job sites.
Requirements:
- Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Computer proficiency.
- Available to work overtime and weekends, as needed.
- Able to pass a drug screen and physical.
- Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Able to work in a confined space; walk, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
- Able to read, understand, and reference locate tickets, as well as maps and prints.
- Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
