Job Overview
The Venue Infrastructure Technology Manager will lead and oversee the planning, coordination and execution of the temporary fiber and copper infrastructure plant at large scale temporary special events in the United States and abroad. This position is ideal for a highly motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment which includes some travel.
Responsibilities (Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
Pre-Event Planning
- Collaborate with the Event Project Manager to understand the overall client requirements/scope (i.e. WI-FI, hardlines, connectivity) to ensure appropriate infrastructure planning.
- Engage directly with Venue Technology Managers, in collaboration with the Event Project Manager, to develop timelines, ensuring clear communication and expectations.
- Build strong relationships with the Venue Technology Managers and key stakeholders, working closely with the Director of Client Engagement to ensure client expectations are met and exceeded
- Lead the design and layout of fiber and copper cabling temporary overlay to meet the needs of the event, including the failover plan to ensure continuous network operation during the event and ensure the fiber strand count has the appropriate allocations and redundancy for event requirements.
- Lead coordination efforts with vendors and contractors, actively participating in meetings and calls to align project goals and deliverables
- Lead the development of a comprehensive infrastructure installation project plan and timeline, including key milestones, in collaboration with the Senior Technical Manager and the Host Venue, ensuring every phase of deployment is planned and clearly communicated.
- Lead the updating of documentation, ensuring that all infrastructure changes are recorded and accessible to responsible parties.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Events Administration and Finance to develop and manage the project budget.
- Collaborate with the Senior Technical Manager and logistics team to ensure all required materials and equipment are procured, usage tracked and confirm the availability of necessary spares.
- Collaborate with the Senior Technical Manager and scheduling team to appropriately schedule human resources to complete all tasks within the timeframe required.
Onsite Management
- Support the Senior Technical Manager with the ongoing onsite management of the field operations team, providing guidance, oversight, and resources to ensure operational efficiency and successful project execution.
- Lead the updating of documentation, ensuring the daily progress of the project is accurately recorded and accessible to responsible parties.
- Oversee, in collaboration with the Senior Technical Manager, the installation of fiber and copper cabling to ensure all related timelines are met. This includes, but is not limited to, working closely with other vendors to ensure the sequence of installation is aligned with various project timelines and milestones.
- Oversee the quality control of all splicing, terminations, and labeling of fiber and copper cables.
- Demonstrate a hands-on leadership approach by working beyond typical duties when necessary, maintaining high standards, and supporting the team during critical event phases.
- Provide accurate and timely reports to upper management, the Venue Technology Manager, and other stakeholders on current project status, raising any concerns or risks promptly to ensure proactive issue resolution and maintain transparency.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in planning and designing fiber optic networks, with a proven ability to lead complex projects.
- PMP, RCDD, and/or other BICSI certifications
- Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams, including technicians, engineers, and contractors
- Experience in managing relationships with stakeholders, including clients, partners, vendors, and internal team members.
- Experience working with logistics teams, overseeing materials and equipment tracking, and ensuring readiness with adequate spares onsite
- Strong expertise in overseeing fiber splicing, termination, and testing techniques, guiding teams in technical excellence.
- Knowledge of site logistics and coordination
- Strong financial acumen, including budget management and cost control.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, dynamic environment, demonstrating resilience and adaptability to changes in schedule, client needs, or project scope.
- Understanding of networking protocols and how fiber optic networks interact with the broader IT infrastructure
- Willingness to travel up to 60-85 days per year domestically and possibly internationally
- Skilled at navigating internal and external challenges, driving project success through proactive problem-solving and leadership.
