Warehouse Operations Manager

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a proven Warehouse Operations Manager to join our client based in Birmingham.
The job holder will ensure the smooth management of the warehouse operation, with responsibility for the delivery of cost, service, compliance, people KPIs – in line with company and legal standards and requirements.
Direct responsibility for the warehouse teams with a support and deputy role for transport, CI and compliance and the General manager as required.
Core Accountabilities
Cost
* Manage labour to ensure departments are covered effectively at optimal cost, considering peak periods
* Ensure all inbound and outbound product is to the agreed standard with minimum wastage
* Ensure that the department and depot achieve the company quality targets whilst operating within productivity targets
* Ensure any operational costs are fully managed through the continual review of the budget and any variances
* Prepare and present monthly updates on cost control and initiatives to reduce cost whilst not impacting service
* In conjunction with the Depot Manager, build budgets, to include stretch targets, in line with forecasted volumes
Service
* Proactive communication with internal and external customers, line manager and customer service team regarding operational issues
* Ensure the teams under your remit are always providing the best possible service whilst maintaining cost control and adhering to company and legislative requirements
* Effectively manage the warehouse teams to provide the best service to our customers, both internal and external
* Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding issues affecting service to customers, both internal and external
* Responsibility for the delivery of the depot strategy to ensure customer and company needs and targets are met
* Implement effective adjustments to the warehouse operation, through engagement with internal stakeholders, to facilitate changes to customer and depot requirements
Compliance
Ensure compliance with all quality and legal Health and Safety documentation and standards through the stock and facilities team
Ensure customer and company requirements are observed by monitoring the adherence to company policies and procedures
Accurately complete relevant depot audits and manage departmental corrective actions the experience matters
Ensure all relevant training is completed to the required standard through auditing and completing any relevant corrective actions
Prepare and present monthly performance updates to the management team in relation to accidents and compliance
People
Proactively manage team members’ performance
Identify employee training requirements including mandatory regulatory training
Ensure provision of training to employees for compliance and development needs
Ensure investigations into accidents and incidents are completed effectively and there is a follow up on corrective action with communication to the wider team
Proactively ensure people management issues are identified and effectively dealt with
Ensure consistent communications across the team and develop and maintain relationships with other departments
Provision of relevant suite of tools and applications for the warehouse teams to effectively manage the operatives, customer expectations and requirements of the company
Leadership
Act following the company’s values and management principles within the department
Provide the team with expert knowledge, advice, leadership, motivation and addressing areas for improvement
Provide practical solutions to operational challenges and take ownership of problems and deal with them effectively
Create and maintain a positive, safe, and productive working environment
Continually review ways of improving the operations in all areas, generating new ideas and actively implementing and promoting change

Experience, Skills and Knowledge
Experience
Experience in a management role within a fast moving and changing work environment such as FMCG or logistics
Multifunctional management experience in a split shift environment
Experienced in managing, developing, and inspiring small and large teams
Experienced in high volume output to tight specifications
Financial management experience, including P&L & budgets

The ideal candidate will be someone that has some experience in dealing with stock and managing stock loss.
