Workshop Head- Mechanical Engineer
The Workshop Head oversees all workshop activities in a project-based environment, ensuring efficient in-house manufacturing, quality control, assembly, and testing to meet specific project requirements. This role requires a proactive leader with experience in project-oriented manufacturing to maintain high quality, efficiency, and safety standards while achieving project timelines and cost objectives. Key Responsibilities: In-House Manufacturing Management: Planned and allocated resources to meet project-specific manufacturing requirements, ensuring alignment with project schedules and objectives. Work closely with the design team during prototype development to ensure manufacturability, provide feedback, and incorporate necessary design modifications. Provide support to other departments by sharing resources, expertise, and personnel as needed to meet overall project goals and company objectives. Oversee manufacturing processes, making adjustments to meet the unique needs of each project efficiently while minimizing waste. Ensure proper painting, packing, and dispatch of completed projects in line with quality standards and client specifications. Collaborate with program managers to understand technical specifications and translate them into production plans. Quality Control: Develop and enforce quality control standards specific to project requirements, ensuring all products meet client and regulatory specifications. Conduct inspections and audits throughout the production process to maintain consistency in quality across different projects. Work with the quality assurance team to investigate and resolve quality issues, implementing corrective actions as necessary for project compliance. Project-Based Assembly and Testing: Oversee assembly processes for customized project components, ensuring compliance with design specifications and project timelines. Supervise testing procedures tailored to project needs, verifying product performance, durability, and safety standards. Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to meet project specifications and ensure accurate results. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor workshop staff, focusing on meeting project deadlines and quality standards. Foster a collaborative, results-driven team environment, ensuring adherence to safety and project guidelines. Provide performance feedback, identify skill gaps, and support staff development to meet project demands. Operational Efficiency and Cost Management: Identify and implement improvements to optimize production efficiency and cost-effectiveness across various projects. Manage project-specific inventory, coordinating with procurement to ensure timely availability of materials while controlling excess stock. Work with project managers and procurement teams to source quality materials and maintain vendor relationships. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of production, quality control, assembly, and testing for each project to ensure traceability. Prepare and submit project reports, including productivity metrics, quality inspections, and incident reports. Support project budgeting by monitoring costs within the workshop and providing inputs to project managers. Qualifications: Education : Bachelors degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing or workshop environments, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role within a project-based setting. Skills: In-depth knowledge of manufacturing, quality control, and assembly processes for custom and project-based work. Proficiency in workshop tools, machinery, and project-specific testing equipment. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills tailored to a project environment. Effective leadership skills with a focus on team development and project-based productivity. Knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with project management and familiarity with project-based resource planning. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies. Certification in quality management or industrial safety is a plus.
